In 1892 a picture album entitled Bijutsu Gafu (i.e., Fine Arts Picture Album) was published by Katsugorō Inoue. The book’s twenty pictures of flowers, fruits or birds, drawn by an anonymous artist, are shown below. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Most flowers, fruits and birds were drawn with sufficient detail for them to be identifiable by a knowledgeable picture viewer but neither their shapes nor colors were true-to-life.
